She came into our lives rather suddenly and left it in a similar fashion. When the emergency vet called us, we were expecting to hear test results – not that she was gone. In the two weeks since we lost her we also lost a very good human friend and all I can say now is: that’s life – anything can happen at any time.
Some of you may already know that Snow Bunny joined us shortly after we lost Rory and adopted Ezio. Snow Bunny was rescued from some hoarding situation. She may have been in a house with 30 0r 40 rabbits, where food was scarce. When we adopted her she was skinny, her fur was covered in urine spray from being bullied, and almost a feral spirit. When we first met her at Save A Bunny, she ran right up to me, jumped on me and sat on my chest. ( Rory did a similar thing the very first time we met him and Hunny.) Almost as if to say, “Save Me!”
Snow learned how to be a rabbit from Hunny and Ezio. Generally speaking I’ve found male rabbits to be very outgoing and very easy for me to become friends with them. They’re outgoing and usually so much fun. The girl bunnies seem to be more temperamental, and require so much more work to gain their trust. The rewards are greater than the effort though. Both Hunny and Snow have broken me! I have never been so patient with any animal or person in my life. One of the best ways to get rabbits to trust you is to spend time on the floor with them regularly. Eventually Snow started grooming me, making her the 3rd of the 5 rabbits I’ve had up til then to do so. She went from being scared of everything to taking over Hunny’s role as my “Supervisor.” She became the one who regularly came to check up on me during the day, ask for treats, tell me to quit working around 6:15pm, and later reminding us that their dinner time was 7:30pm.
Big changes are happening in the warren again but that can wait. Right now I just want to post photos of Snow Bunny.
These are the last two photos of her. She sat down by my feet to take a nap. We were waiting for Kristen to come home. Two days later she was gone.
Good night Snow Bunny.
